Teachers Receive IDEA Grants

The Schalmont IDEA Grant Committee has recently awarded grants for the 2008-09 school year. The recipients include:

Mini:

Roberta Albrecht, Krista Gillis, Barbara Harris, Day Pinkham, Geralyn Zink
-Created a website displaying digital images of student art galleries.

Diane Babin - Developed 8th grade Careers program simulating the workplace.

Deb McCloskey - Created an online and hard copy study skills tutorial for HS students and parents.

DeeAnn Coniglio - To provide a highly motivating curriculum mythology designed to spark interest in reading/writing while improving reading/listening comprehension in reluctant 5th grade readers.

Linda Fasano - Created an inquiry-based experience for students engaged in the research process by immersing them in the art world, which they studied throughout the research process—collaboration between middle school English teachers and the Library Media Specialist.

Joann Perillo-Lasky - Created a Mock Trial based on the book Pricilla and the Wimps by Richard Peek.

Jamie Pink - Designed two mini-science kits that will enhance the first grade science curriculum as well as promote active engagement in the scientific process.

Becky Remis and Lynn Gemmiti - Created earthquake machines, a dynamic model of the forces in the generation of earthquakes in the Earth’s crust.

Marty Rossner and Laura McGuirk - Empowered teachers to engage, educate, assess and motivate students through an interactive white board called Promethean. This technology enables teachers and students to create and integrate text, images, quizzes and tests and web and video content

Traditional:

Ann Schulman (Terri McCreadie, Consultant) - Created on demand video resources for First Class users.

Kathy Fagan - To modify or develop materials and curricula which will enable Schalmont students to use various technologies to facilitate the purposeful use of the target language (French) in natural contexts.

Melissa West and Tami Dvorscak - Created a yearlong reading and writing workshop curriculum calendar and the coordinating texts, creating a step-by-step guide to teach reading and writing workshop in the classroom.

Marty Rossner and Laura McGuirk - Empowered teachers to engage, educate, assess and motivate students through an interactive white board called Promethean. This technology enables teachers and students to create and integrate text, images, quizzes and tests and web and video content.

Rose Hochmuth  - Used technology (Verneir Lab Probes) in the earth science classroom by using to obtain real life data by students and then used computer software to analyze the data.

Betsy Wright and Jessica Zupan - Created an EIS/AIS Everyday Math Toolkit including reproducible materials for grades 1-4 that are similar in vocabulary, layout and design to the EDM Journals.

Jessica Melchior, Shannon Farrell, Jefferson School  - This project focused on the creation of fourth grade social studies research binders.

Mary Beth Flatley, John George, Middle School -The focus of this grant was to create a web based poetry corner.

Kathy Fagan, High School - This project focused on a research project focusing on the Arts of the French speaking world.

Elisa Pepe, High School -This project focused on reading strategies in the content area.

Mary Shands, Heather Cohen, High -This project focused on developing graduated individualized reading plans for students.

Geralyn Zink, High School -This project focused on the display of student artwork on the web.
